This is the story of a Japanese woman named Satoko Kitahara. Despite family opposition, she was baptised after graduating from University in 1951. Shocked by the poverty of post-war Tokyo ragpickers (dustbin sifters) she abandoned her rich home to become a ragpicker, dying among them of tuberculosis, aged 29. She loved Our Lady so deeply that the Japanese media dubbed her 'Mary of the Ragpickers'.
