Books about Atlantis have sometimes been bestsellers - bestsellers of scientific literature, of popular science, of adventure, science fiction and, of course, of pseudoscientific literature. Many have been full of fabrications, wild conjectures, half truths and plain nonsense.
The author has attempted, by contrast, to throw the ballast overboard and present this attractive problem as a real scientific topic, mainly from the viewpoint of the earth sciences. He addresses all those interested in recent geological history, sea floor exploration, the ice ages and natural catastrophes, and shows, how all these play an essential role in Atlantis studies.
